and Bike Holliday - Nordic Walking Vacation 3 Country Tour Maas and Rhine
Day 1: ArrivalUpon your arrival in
Maastricht, you’re expected at the Pietersplas yacht harbour at 13.00 (the
harbour has video surveillance and reserved parking places). Once on board,
we’re pleased to offer you a welcome aperitif and let you know a little bit more
about the planned tour. We’ll make sure that everyone has a bike, adjusted to
your personal preference, and take a short bike ride in the afternoon. We’re
pleased to serve you a hearty meal and the captain will then initiate you into
the tradition of the Maastrichter by treating all to a Limburg beer on the aft
deck of the MIRO.
Day 2: Thorn (35 km)
During breakfast
we’ll set sail for the Locks of Born, an impressive drop of 14 metres. Here
you’ll begin your bike tour through Flemish countryside, and to Maaseik in
Belgium, renowned for its historical market. The trip takes you along the
skipper’s village of Maasbracht, with its many lovely harbours, all the way to
the beautiful white town of Thorn. Be charmed by a walking trip through its
narrow streets and enjoy the vistas of the old castles that await you.
Day 3: Arcen (35 km)
Again during
breakfast we’ll set sail for Kessel, where you will again enjoy another lovely
bike tour along the Maas towards Venlo and to the lovely town of Arcen, known
for its castle gardens and hot water springs. In the evening you’ll delight in a
romantic evening sail on the Maas. And you’ll fall asleep docked at the
beautiful pier of the town of Sambeek.
Day 4: Cuijk- and Rhine region (52 km)
While enjoying
breakfast we’ll be on our way to Cuijk, and your bike tour of the German village
of Zyfflich, with its countless storks, and the Waal- and Rhine region, biking
over the renowned dikes and along protected natural areas of breathtaking
beauty. The tour takes us via Mook back to Cuijk in time to enjoy the city and
discover its delights.That evening we’ll
once more enjoy the pleasures of the Maas at twilight.
Day 5: Roermond (50 km)
Today your bike tour
will take you over the border to Germany, crossing through the famous nature
reserves the Brachter Wald and Swalmen, to the old bishop’s seat of Roermond.
The Miro will be waiting for you in the harbour and the evening will find you
enjoying the delights that this lovely city has to offer.
Day 6: Maastricht (35 km)
In the early morning
hours we’ll already have set sail on a delightful route on the Maas lake region,
and we’ll pass through three Locks with an inclination of 14 meters, as we make
our way to Born. The bike route will take you alongside the canal of Elsloo to
Maasmechelen, for a visit to Maasmechelen Village and via Lanaken back to
Maastricht. You’re free to visit any of the sights the area is famous for,
including the Mergel caves. The evening hours will see us enjoying a delicious
captain’s dinner and visiting the city centre of Maastricht, where you can enjoy
the extended trading hours of the shops on Thursdays.
Day 7: Return Trip
Enjoy a
last delicious breakfast on board; disembark at 10.00.
